a life that's good

Mark came home for a couple weeks to recover from his surgery and we soaked up every minute with him. He was such a trooper. For the first week he was on crutches and in a leg brace while watching Dagny. She is everywhere and into everything. He would send me pictures of her "paths of destruction" all day. When I'd get home Mark would be exhausted, but so happy and in love with Dags. My mornings off were cozy and cheerful with music, coffee and pancakes. When we were tired of cooking, we went to the Bay and ate outside before it was too hot to breathe. We made it to playgrounds, splash pads and even the beach with crippled Mark.

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"

Mark's injury has caused him to miss the entire season. First it was a little set back and a couple of weeks. Then it was a bigger set back and a lot more weeks. It was all better and only a couple of days till we'd get to watch him play. Then it was wasn't. Seriously, its been a frustrating roller coaster like that and has called for a lot of patience. He finally got cleared to play and had been training for a couple weeks. He got ANOTHER mri to be safe, but it revealed that his quad had torn completely. Yes it was devastating, but it felt like the roller coaster had finally ended and we could focus on recovering. Mark getting to come home for a couple weeks also helped swallow this pill. So as the season continues and Mark stays in Toronto doing rehab, we are rejoicing in the Lord. Dagny has changed so much in the last month. It has been a really great stage and I am so happy that Mark got to be with her for so much of it.

Mark came home...

What a happy weekend it was at the Bloom house. Mark flew in late Thursday night. I woke Dagny up to put in the car, and then again to carry her into the airport. Her face was unimpressed, sleepy and stone cold as I walked through the airport. I would say "Dagny, we're going to see your daddy" and she'd turn, look at me and then look forward. When Mark came, he immediately took her into his arms and she just looked at him and looked at me and then again at him. She didn't cry, and knew exactly who he was, she just didn't know what to think about him being there in person instead of FaceTime. I don't know the word to describe her face where she tucks her lower lip under her upper lip and her cheeks puffed out with a little smirk, but thats the face she kept the entire time.

My upcoming trip to Toronto has been planned for a long time, but this quick trip was a surprise! When we go to Toronto, Mark has three games in one week. He will be very busy and there probably won't be any lazy mornings. While he was here we stayed in bed till 11. We made breakfast at 12. We went to the beach in the late afternoon and drank Blue Paw. Mark had Dagny all to himself the two days I worked. He sat in her room and watched her play like I do every morning. It was truly the best. Its never easy to say goodbye, but this time was easier than most because Dags and I fly out tomorrow!

A Birthday, A Happy Day

Dags and I slept in. She crawled all over me. We went and grabbed some donuts. She devoured one.

My mom, Mary Kate and Lindsay brought the good champagne, flowers and presents.

Dagny and Remi crawled all over each other. Remi loved Dagny's room.

We spent the afternoon at our favorite restaurant on the bay. Everyone took turns taking pictures with the babes.

We walked to a bakery downtown for more champagne and desserts.

We came home to find 30 beautiful tulips delivered from Mark. What a guy! I am so thankful for my family and that they came to celebrate me, as much as Mary Kate tried to steal my birthday, I still felt loved and special.
